Dodge Demon Unleashes Hellhound of Muscle-Car Madness

All hell breaks loose just ahead of the New York auto show as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Dodge division unveils its street-to-drag strip Challenger SRT Demon, a factorybuilt muscle car the automaker says is the world’s quickest production car.

Powered by an 840-hp supercharged 6.2L Hemi – the highest horsepower production V-8 ever, Dodge says – the Demon makes the run to 60 mph (97 km/h) in 2.3 seconds and clips the quarter-mile in a National Hot Rod Assoc.-certified 9.65 seconds at 140 mph (225 km/h).

  1. Key word is quickest, not fastest. I know a lot of people will get confused with that

  2. does mid9’s its the quickest and fastest production car ever. its meant to go 1000ft that’ it. 0-30 isecond, 0-100 5 seconds. There’s nothing production wise even excotic cars that can touch in in the standing 1/4

    1. depends on gear ratio, not sure what the demon has, I would say there are options or modifications for both cars. McLaren high end power is off the chart.

    2. The Cobrajet is a production car that is definitely quicker than the Demon.

    3. cobrajet as in the ford Engine. Is there a ford car named the Cobrajet?

    4. that cobrajet is not street legal, has rollcage installed, car’s looks badass but no VIN tags no title, pure trak car

    5. it produced 80 I think each year, could be wrong. Its pure track car, not street legal. amazing power, and I am not a fan of Fords.

  3. The advertised the Hellcat as a 200mph plus car. Fail. I want to see the video of that 9.65 run. Cars with that power and weight should run around 10.7. Car launches itself, thats so lame. Ill run one from a roll and we will see whats up.

    1. Joe The demon hellcat has a transmission brake. No stall converter needed. This car I bet hits the hole shot around 5000rpms if not more. That can cut 1/2 or 1 second that gives it that 9.65. Back in 1968 the hemi dart and hemi barricuda did mid 10’s out of the factory. So its seems that mopar wanted to relive those years for a new generation. They were actually super stock cars. A lot of those 68’s where doing mid to high 9’s. with a pro driver

  4. Do you have 70k too spend on a toy? I don’t, an it’s not practical in the winter where I live. Rather have a 4×4 then this

  5. dodge always ahead of the pack the 383’s 440s magnum an the legenary 426 hemis, in the 60s an 70s chevys an fords saw their tailights in a race,,

  6. Badass! Love it or hate it it’s still a Badass ride. Right now Dodge is on TOP of there game soaking in all the glory over the last couple of years & rightfully so. They’ve earned that right to brag. I’m strictly talking about the big 3 as far as competing with one another. Not any other manufacturers. They are the big dog on the block right now. While I’m personally not crazy about dodge per say I’ll give the respect that they’ve earned!

  7. For under $70 k a 2 or 3 yr old Shelby GT350R can & will beat the snot out of this demon in every category except drag racing.

    1. correct Robert, corners and curves are more for sportcars, like vette, porsches, ferrair. Musclecars are built for one thing. Achieve maximum hp and torque and putting all that to the tires and connection, not as easy as some think. Demon Hellcat goes straight and they do it fast, 0-100mph in 5 seconds This car is an animal and its angry. More aggressive camshafts and higher lift and durations than anything out there for a drag car.

  8. i would like one but i don’t race on a track or race so i wouldn’t get to enjoy the full thing.

  9. The Cobrajet is a production car that is definitely quicker than the Demon.

    1. But it’s not a production car. No Vin number and not Dot approved and not enough produced a year to be considered a production car. Love it or hate it this is the world’s fastest production car off the showroom floor currently.

    2. It can’t corner , therefore it isn’t really a car !! It’s a drag car !! Same as the cobrajet !! Even Fiat’s scat pack challenger can’t keep up with the cobrajet !! Hehehe !!
