True Stories of The Muscle Car Fan: 68 SS Camaro Left Behind
This story just in from Muscle Car Fan member Bob N from Michigan.
In the early 70’s, hitchhiking was an acceptable means of getting a ride.
For some of us and it was a way to meet girls.
We used to park our perfectly good cars along Woodward, stick our thumbs out and hope some cute girls would give us a ride. One night, I could not find anyone to hang out with so I parked my 1968 SS Camaro at about 11 Mile Rd. and Woodard, locked her up, then started to thumb a ride. Wasn’t long before a car with three girls stopped and I jumped in. They asked me if I wanted to go to a house party in Keego Harbor that they knew of. Who wouldn’t say yes to that?
I partied till 2:00 in the morning. Everyone started to leave and I tried to find those girls I had come with. No luck. Then I asked who was going South. Couldn’t find anyone.
Nothing left to do but start walking and possibly thumb a ride. Only now it’s getting closer to 3:00 am. There are not many cars on the road at that time of the morning.
When I’ve told this story to people, the first thing they always have asked me, is why I just didn’t call my dad? You try to explain to your father why you left a perfectly good car along side the road and started to hitchhike. I spent the next 3 and a half hours, walking and hitching back to my Camaro. To this day, I still feel the joy of unlocking that door even though it was near 6:30 in the morning.

Right, I would have never leave my car behind for girls. Unless it was a junker
Back then Camaro’s were common cars. Back in the early 70’s, my buddy bought a 67 for $300.00. Got drunk and wrapped it around a tree.
Loved the fake hood louvers on this car. I was working at Chevrolet dealership drove all the Camaros and Chevelles.
