426 Hemi GTX vs 440 / 6 Pack Challenger – 1/4 Mile Drag Race & Burn Out Video – Road Test TV

1/4 mile drag race between a 1967 426 Hemi Plymouth GTX and a 1970 440 6 Pack Dodge Challenger. The Challenger has 3 – 2 barrel carburetors and is rated at 390 horsepower. The Hemi GTX has 2 – 4 barrel carburetors from the factory and is rated at 425 horsepower. Both cars are very, very rare.

  1. my money is on the 440 six pack..its one bad mofo!

  2. On street ( or “skinny” tires) the 440 will always walk away from a 426 Hemi but will get reeled back in near the end of the quarter. With some real traction the Hemi can be launched at higher revs putting it into the meaty part of it’s powerband while on stock/street type tires a 440 ( or a BB Olds or Chev) can “slide out” at about 2500 or so and be pulling hard before the Hemi wakes up. Now lets see a Chevelle SS with a “stock” LS6 take on a “stock” 70 Hemi Cuda. Still betting on the “non”- Hemi in that one.
