AMX vs SC/Rambler Scrambler – 1/4 Mile Drag Race – Gone, But not Forgotten – Road Test TV

1/4 mile drag race between a rare 1969 SC/Rambler and a rare 1968 AMX. Both cars were produced by the now defunct American Motors Corporation (AMC). Both cars are powered by AMC‘s 390 cubic inch V8 rated at 315 horsepower backed by a 4 speed manual transmission. The AMX has a 3.91 sure grip rear (aka positraction) while the SC/Rambler has a 4.10 posi rear. Enjoy !!

  1. Back in the mid 70s a guy in town had an AMX ( or was there one called a Hornet???) like this. It had the 390 and it had beeen “massaged> a bit. He had big wide BFG t/as on the back and it was the first street car I saw that lifted the front tires off the ground ( He was at a stop light and he booted it lifting the front tires about an inch or two off the ground). The second car was a few weeks later. A 70 El Camino (silver with black stripes) with a healthy “tuned” LS6 in it got one tire in the air at the same stop light. That El Camino was put into storage in the early 80s and the guy who owned it moved “up the line” about 220 miles and I heard a couple years ago that he still has the car ( truck?) it just needs to be restored.

  2. Two of the best muscle cars ever built, the AMX is without a doubt the best ever built!
