1949 Oldsmobile Holiday 98 Sports Coupe images 303 OHV V8 Hydramatic

Dive into the world of classic cars with the 1949 Oldsmobile Holiday 98 Sports Coupe, a car so ahead of its time, it probably considered itself a time traveler. With a cutting-edge Hydramatic automatic transmission and the powerful “Rocket 88” engine, it was the automotive equivalent of a rocket ship. And let’s not forget the “Autronic Eye” that dimmed high beams automatically—because who needs to manually do anything nowadays? Out of nearly 93,478 Oldsmobiles, only 3,006 were “Holiday” models, making it the exclusive club everyone wanted to join.

The premier vehicle of the 1949 Oldsmobile full size line up is the “Oldsmobile 98” and it would stay that way until 1996, although in 1958, the name would change slightly from “98” to “ninety eight”. The vehicle is at the cutting edge of the technology of the time, with a hydramatic automatic transmission option on the order sheet to back up the “Rocket 88” engine under the hood. Other newly introduced items include the “Autronic Eye” and the “Twilight Sentinel”, which respectively, is auto high beam dimming plus a timing feature to automatically turn your headlights on at dusk. The interior can be very lavishly equipped and a full leather interior was also available from the show room. There were 3,006 of the “Holiday” units sold out of the 93,478 Oldsmobile’s assembled in ’49.
