The Year ‘Cuda Became Its Own Thing

If this is the 1969 model many commenters are guessing, it landed right as the ‘Cuda package graduated from a simple trim option into its own identity — twin black hood stripes, dual hood scoops, a four-speed with Hurst shifter, and blacked-out lower body paint. Buyers could already choose between a 340 rated at 275 horsepower, a 383 at 330 horsepower, or a range-topping 440 Super Commando V8 producing 375 horsepower, making the ‘Cuda one of the hardest-hitting pony cars Plymouth had ever offered.

Why “Blown” Changes Everything

None of those factory ratings account for what a supercharger does to a small-block once an owner decides factory horsepower isn’t enough. Period testing on Paxton-supercharged Barracudas showed roughly a 1.1-second improvement in 0-60 time and a quarter-mile that fell by 0.7 seconds while trap speed climbed by 8 mph — numbers that turn an already quick pony car into something that can embarrass much bigger engines.
