Chevrolet El Camino 1987 images

The Chevrolet El Camino’s swan song was in 1987, and anything labeled as a “1988” is like claiming Bigfoot drove it—just myth and folklore. True El Camino aficionados know that the last of these beauties wears a VIN number ending in 3GCCW80H2HS915586, but it never made its curtain call at the GM Heritage Center. So, should you spot a 1988 El Camino, remember: it’s just a ’87 model playing dress-up! Enjoy the images of this classic icon, courtesy of our friends at Gateway Classic Cars.

The last year the El Camino was produced is 1987 and the 1988 model is a myth. Any vehicle listed as a “1988” has an “H” as the tenth charactor in the VIN dseignating it as a “MY” (model year) car-a left over from1987. To be a true “MY” vehicle the tenth charactor in the VIN will be a “J”. The consensus of online forums is the last unit produced VIN number is 3GCCW80H2HS915586 although it was not donated to the GM Heritage Center as is the tradition, so it cannot be confirmed
