Behold the Jaguar E-Type Series III, produced from 1971 to 1975, featuring a V12 engine so mighty it could practically purr its way into the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The 5.3 L beast, originally roaring at 272 hp, was tamed slightly for production—think of it as a lion with a slight cough. It zooms from 0-60 mph in 6.8 seconds, teasing a top speed of 217 km/h. Fuel economy? Let’s just say it prefers its drinks shaken, not stirred. Thanks to Gateway Classic Cars for the eye candy!
The Jaguar E-type Series III was produced between 1971 and ’75 inclusively. Beneath the bonnet is a V12 engine with a 5.3 L displacement (323.4 cu in) and is topped by four Zenith carburetors; the engine was developed to compete in the 24 hours of Le Mans. The unit actually used in the race puts out 203 kW (272 hp), but the power was dropped slightly for production versions. The Series III E-Type not only has a top speed of 217 km/h ( mph) and will do 0-97 km/h (60 mph) in 6.8 seconds, but also delivers 5.5 km/l or 16 mph.
