One of these Hemi convertibles was built only nine times. The 426 Hemi was the most feared engine in Detroit, and putting it in a drop-top made a rare car rarer still. Here are four of the scarcest Hemi convertibles ever built, counted down from number four to number one.
#4: 1970 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible
Plymouth built just 14, each with a 425 horsepower Hemi.
The 1970 Barracuda was redesigned on Chrysler’s E-body platform, and the Hemi ‘Cuda was its top performance model. The 426 Hemi was rated at 425 horsepower and 490 pound-feet of torque, fed by two four-barrel Carter carburetors. Only 14 convertibles left the factory with the Hemi, and they are among the most valuable muscle cars in the world.

#3: 1971 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible
Just 13 were built, and one sold for 3.5 million dollars.
The 1971 model year was the last for the 426 Hemi. Only 13 Hemi ‘Cuda convertibles were built, and seven of them were sold in the United States. At the Mecum auction in Seattle in June 2014, a blue-on-blue four-speed car sold for 3.5 million dollars, a record that helped define what rare Mopars are worth.
#2: 1969 Dodge Coronet R/T Hemi Convertible
Dodge built only a handful with the 425 horsepower Hemi.
The Coronet R/T came with the 440 Magnum as standard, and the 426 Hemi was a costly option. Few buyers ordered it in a convertible body, so surviving Hemi Coronet R/T convertibles are exceptionally rare. They combine Dodge’s big-body presence with a drop-top that few people ever saw on the street.
#1: 1970 Dodge Challenger R/T Hemi Convertible
Dodge built just nine, making it the rarest of them all.
The Challenger arrived for 1970 as Dodge’s answer to the Mustang and Camaro, and the R/T with the 426 Hemi was the top of the range. Only nine Hemi Challenger R/T convertibles were built, which makes it the rarest car on this list and one of the rarest muscle cars of all time.
