Plymouth Road Runner 1970 images

In 1970, the Plymouth Road Runner faced a bumpy road as high insurance rates hit muscle cars like a banana peel in a cartoon chase. Out of 41,000 units, only 834 had the wind-in-your-hair convertible option, with a mere trio of the Hemi-powered “R” code models escaping the factory – one even made it to Canada, eh! Despite the decline, these classic beauties remain timeless, proving that sometimes, nostalgia is the best fuel for the soul. Just don’t forget to buckle up when you click for the larger images!

Higher insurance rates for all the high powered muscle cars in 1970 are the main reason Roadrunner sales declined by more than 50%. There were around 41,000 units produced in ’70 including 834 convertibles. Only three units of the soft top “R”code (Hemi) Roadrunner left the factory in 1970, which includes the one unit sent to Canada.
