Rare L88 427 Corvette vs Olds 442 W30 – 1/4 Mile Drag Race – Old School – Road Test TV

1/4 mile drag race between an ultra rare 1969 L88 Corvette which powered by a 430 Horsepower 427 solid lifter big block and a 1972 Oldsmobile 442 powered by the factory blue-printed W30 455 rated at 300 horsepower in 1972. The L88 Corvette is 1 of only 116 produced in 1969. The 442 W30 is also rare as it is 1 of only 772 built.

  1. Vette didn’t blow the W30 away like a 130 more horses should have. Just me, the Olds did good.

    1. No, not just you, I thought 130 HP difference was a bit much, but the Olds did great!

    2. either the guy in the vett took it easy or don’t know how to drive it…

    1. A 72 Olds 455 DID have around 300 hp ( maybe even a bit less?) this is NOT a stock 72-455! Listen to it! Once again like with a Hemi, the 427 made it’s torque at higher revs so without having watched this yet I’m guessing the Olds walked away until half track when the Vette’s solid lifter 427 go into it’s meat and started to pull the Olds back?????

    2. Just watched. Olds an automatic. Vette a 4 speed with 4:56 gears????? Olds got a jump and Vette won. For 9 out of 10 drivers a 4 speed is harder to drag race than an Automatic. My buddy had a 70 Olds 442 those cars looked “big” and heavy but actually weighed less than a modern Camaro by a couple hundred pounds. The 70 Olds had an extra 80-100 hp over a 72 /

  2. If you want a guys want to know the truth that 455 was running over 400 horsepower do the fact has been rebuilt and about six months prior to being done his running race gas or high octane the Corvette was all original not been touched huge difference so back in the day yeah the Corvette would have stomped the living crap out of the olds by at least 3 car links exactly the Corvette wants a real race to put mondello’s car up against it that thing runs in the 8

  3. Exactly when I bought my own was back in 1985 it had 365 horsepower because I Dyno tested it because I worked in the automotive industry and it was a 72 442 w30 I still have that car today nice to and now it’s been upgraded to about 650 horsepower
