Before the 2018 model year, a rendering claiming to reveal a revived three-door Chevrolet Chevelle spread online, complete with invented horsepower figures and a suspiciously plausible price tag. It never happened — Chevrolet never built it, and the Camaro remained the brand’s only performance coupe. Read on to find out what the rumor actually claimed, and why fans wanted a modern Chevelle badly enough to believe it.

This hugger-orange 1971 Chevelle SS wears a Baldwin-Motion badge — proof it passed through one of the strangest, most aggressive dealer-tuner partnerships of the muscle car era. This compilation pits classic muscle – a ’68 Barracuda, a Chevy Nova, a Chevelle – against modern Hellcats, Camaro ZL1s, and a Shelby GT500 in a string of head-to-head drag passes. By the numbers, the two quickest cars on the card were both Hellcats, but a 1968 Barracuda wasn’t far behind at a 10.1-second quarter mile. The comment section splits along generational lines, and one line – “like father, like son” – says more about why than any horsepower figure could. Watch to see the full lineup run.
