A Corvette lining up against a Blue Angels F/A-18 Hornet sounds like a foregone conclusion, and over enough distance it absolutely is. But the test was a sprint to 100 mph, not a race to top speed, and that distinction changes everything. The ZR1 nicknamed Blue Devil brought 638 supercharged horsepower and carbon ceramic brakes. Read on for why the short-run format made this closer than it had any right to be.
Roll racing looks nothing like a standard quarter-mile pass — cars start already moving side by side instead of launching from a light tree, which left at least one viewer of this footage from the Street Car Takeover event in Topeka completely lost. The format exists for a reason, and understanding it turns the chaos into one of the more honest tests of a street car’s actual power. Watch to see what happens when the launch gets taken out of the equation.
Once a year, a stretch of historic Route 66 running through El Reno, Oklahoma turns into a sanctioned drag strip, complete with a burnout contest, a full car show, and an evening cruise through downtown. Urban Hillbilly Videos captured the Small Town Weekend event in action, documenting a grassroots gathering that bigger automotive media outlets tend to overlook entirely. Take a look at what a legal street racing event actually looks like done right.
The Ice Cream Cruise’s annual burnout contest never plays it safe, and this entry proves it — a truck catches fire mid-pass while the on-site fire crew scrambles to keep the show going. Between tire chunks flying into the crowd and a Dodge that can’t settle on a gear, this clip has Australian and American burnout fans arguing in the comments about whose scene is wilder. Watch to see how close things got to going seriously wrong.
No prep racing strips away the traction compound that normal drag strips depend on, which turns a thousand-horsepower pass into a wrestling match. A helmet cam mounted inside BoostedGT’s Ford lines up against Flaco’s twin-turbo LSx S10 at No Prep Mayhem in Wichita. Two very different formulas, one very slick surface. Read on for what makes this format so much harder than it looks.
