Chevrolet’s small block engines, led by Ed Cole’s 265 cid V8, have been roaring through history since 1955, starting with the Corvette and Bel Air. Known as the “Mighty Mouse,” this engine quickly became a race circuit favorite. From the 283’s groundbreaking 1 hp per cubic inch to the legendary 350, these engines have powered everything from sports cars to boats. Although U.S. production ceased in 2003, the versatile small block, still available in crate form from Mexico, continues to make waves.

In a twist of automotive fate, a grandfather-grandson duo embarked on a humorous journey, transforming a 1976 Dodge Aspen R/T into a rare Mexican Super Bee clone. Trading an old Dodge truck for the project, they navigated the quirky world of Mopar enthusiasts, guided by a fellow fan, Matt. With unique parts sourced from Mexico, including a Valiant hood badge from Carlos, they christened their creation “Elvira.” Now, with gratitude and a touch of whimsy, they revel in their one-of-a-kind Super Bee adventure.

The AMC Javelin G2, unleashed from 1971-1974, was the muscle car that made even your grandma want to race. With its futuristic design, this two-door hard-top was lower, wider, and sported a roof spoiler as if ready to take on a wind tunnel. The Javelin’s engines ranged from a humble six to a roaring 401-cubic-inch V8 that could turn heads and tires. It even snagged the Trans-Am race series prize a few times, proving that this beast wasn’t just for show; it was for full-throttle, tire-screeching action!
