Based on its strong sales for the 14 years of its production cycle it’s safe to say the Chevrolet Chevelle SS is the most iconic muscle car in the United States. Pontiac claimed its GTO was the first muscle car because the GTO trim line was made available on the 1964 Tempest, but Chevy also made a splash that same year with the SS option package on Chevelle‘s top trim line, the Malibu.
