Though the vintage car #market is in a cooling off period, especially at the high end of the range after a big run -up that saw prices of classic Ferraris and #American muscle cars reaching record levels, the market for under-$40,000 collectibles is becoming red-hot, with the greatest interest being among coveted rides from the 1970’s through the ‘90’s. Specifically, older pickup trucks and SUVs – which would have been all but absent from vintage car #auctions a decade or two ago – ...

Those are some shitty times for that car.
Verdict: if you can’t drive a freakin’ manual and crap the bed coming out of the hole, yes, a slushomatic is faster than a manual. This is doubly proven if neither of the test subjects is, in any way, competent. In the manual, neither were shifting hard, neither knew how to leave on time, and the manual owner brought 150lb of dead weight and *still* neither of them could keep it down. With those elements in place, yes, the parasitic loss of a slushomatic will still be faster, as would a Pontiac Fiero with a leaky transmission.

Depends whose driving.
Auto, no brainer. Forget all the macho immaturity. It’s just common sense.
Depends on the driver, manual takes less horsepower to turn resulting in more rear wheel HP!!!
Give me manual transmission anyway. I can get a hell of a lot more power out of the engine with good old fashioned stick shift, and leave the auto tranny guy in the dust.
