2018 Super-Challenger Demon SRT Adds Factory Trans Brake
The 2018 Challenger SRT Demon, which will be a wider more powerful version of the Challenger, shows how serious factory drag racing cars are becoming. The SRT Demon will be the first ever production car equipped with a transmission brake. The trans brake allows drag racers to use the device to lock up their transmission by engaging drive and reverse at the same time. This allows the drag racer at the starting line to rev up the engine to the ideal launch RPM by loading up the torque converter and making the car ready to leap from the line without creeping forward.
It is built into the factory automatic transmission and engaged by the driver who can rev up to 2350 RPM before the light turns green to start.
Supercharger boost pressure can be increased by 105 percent and launch torque by 120 percent, giving these cars a significant advantage at the start of the drag race.
