Ford Mustang Fifth Generation

The Ford Mustang is completely redesigned for 2005 and on the all new D2C platform but the styling is reminiscent of the fast back models from the late 1960’s. All Mustangs have a Macpherson-strut suspension with reverse “L” control arms in front the rear is a live axle system which reduces handling capabilities but is lighter weight and much cheaper than independent rear suspension. The 16’ aluminum wheels and larger brake pads than previous years are on the twin piston calipers and are basic. Included on the GT model are anti-lock brakes with traction control – these are options on the base model. Other standard equipment includes power windows, duel power mirrors, power door locks, remote keyless entry, front air bags, and AM/FM stereo with CD player. An optional interior upgrade package includes a six way power adjustable driver’s seat, leather seat surface, and brushed aluminum panels. More options are a color configurable instrument cluster and a choice of 500 watt stereo or the 1000 watt version – both stereos include a six disc DVD changer and a USB plug for your MP3

The Mustang from 2005 until 2010 is basically powered by a cast iron block 4.0 liter SOHC-V6 producing 210 hp (157 kW; 213 PS) and equipped with the Tremec 3650 five speed manual or an optional Ford 5R55S five speed automatic transmission. The GT power option is a cast aluminum block 4.6 liter SOHC three valve Modular V8 with variable camshaft timing (VCT) putting out 300 hp (224 kW; 304 PS) with the  Tremec TR-3650 five speed standard or the same optional automatic transmission as the base model. A tested stock V6 convertible model was able to do 0-60 mph (97 km/h) in 7.3 seconds

  A Shelby GTH Mustang was released in 2006 based on the GT model with a V8 producing 319 hp (238 kW). This car has functional hood pins, cold air intake, and includes a handling pack. A pony package became available in 2006 and in 2007. Added options in ’07 are GPS by Pioneer, power passenger seat, Serius satellite radio, with a front spoiler available for the V6 only In 2008 the Mustang introduce standard side air bags, adjustable ambient lighting, and HID headlamps. Then in 2009 a glass sun roof became an option as well as Ford Sinc is a dealer installed option but only in ’09. Starting in 2007 until 2009 a V6 appearance package became an optional offering. In 2009 a special 45th anniversary edition is released.

The California special appearance package became available for 2007 then again in 2011. the Bullitt edition is offered in 2008 and 2009 based on the GT with the same aluminum block but putting out 315 hp (235 kW) and also includes a handling package. In 2010 the Mustang has a new body design with a reduced drag coefficient of 4% on the base models but a slightly higher 7% on the GT. The base engine stays the same but the GT has an upgraded 4.6 liter V8 and now puts out 315 hp (235 kW; 319 PS) at 6000 rpm and 325 lb-ft (441 N-m) of torque at 4,255 rpm. All the models have new spring rates and dampers with traction and stability control system as a standard feature as well as 16” wheels. The 2011 Ford Mustang has Electric power steering and two new engines as well as two new six speed transmissions to chose from; either the Getrag-Ford MT82 manual or the 6R80 automatic. The new aluminum block V6 engine develops 305 hp (227 kW; 309 PS) 280 lb-ft (380 N-m) of torque. This 3.7 liter engine has 24 valves with Twin independent Variable Cam Timing (TiVCT) with duel exhaust pipes and gets great gas mileage; at 19city/31 highway. The power GT option is equipped with a 32 valve 5.0 liter (302.13 cu in) power plant putting out 315 hp (235 kW; 319 PS)at 6,000 rpm and 325 lb-ft of torque. This model can optionally come equipped with Brembo brakes for the 19” rims and high performance tires. In 2012 a new “Laguna Seca” Edition is available and the new Boss 302 is released with a V8 producing 444 hp (331 kW; 450 PS). Spring 2012 Ford launched an early release 2013 including a Shelby GT500 with a supercharged 5.8 Liter V8 which produces 662 hp (494 kW; 671 PS). The transmission is a six speed manual for the Shelby and the boss engines. The GT model styling was revised and the V8 produces a bit higher 420 hp (313 kW; 426 PS).Capture3

  2. Ummm… The 5th gen ‘Stang was the much loathed Mustang II (as much as people like to disown that one). The 2005 – 12 Mustang is the 8th generation… ’64 1/2 – ’66 1st, ’67 – ’68 2nd, ’69 – ’70 3rd, ’71 – ’73 4th, ’74 – ’78 5th, ’79 – ’93 6th, ’94 – ’04 7th, ’05 – ’14 8th, present 9th.
