Ford Falcon 2014 GT

 The Falcon is still being made by Ford but as a full sized automobile and has been in continuous production since 1960 but you will not see it in any U.S. showrooms. The Falcon is made by Ford’s Australian Division with eight versions available for 2014. This Australian product helps to fill four wheeled transportation needs through-out much of the South East Asian region including New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

The newest Falcon seventh generation began in 2008. Mad Max drove an Australian made seventh generation Falcon XR8 model in the Road Warrior and this version is also used by the Australian police as a highway interceptor; powered by a supercharged 5. 4 liter V8 engine that puts out 536 hp makes it a formidable tool for them. This large high powered automobile was discontinued at the end of 2011 because it does not conform to the latest emission regulations. Ford has plans to reintroduce a conforming Falcon XR8 but with a less powerful 5.4 liter big engine option for late in the 2014 model year.

The XR6 version for 2014 is now the quickest option of the Falcon line . This automobile is equipped with a turbocharged 4 liter V6 engine under the hood which will produce 270 kW (361 hp) and puts out 533 Nm of torque that peaks from 1250 to 5750 rpm. The engine has received some major modifications from previous versions,  now  featuring a larger inter-cooler and a higher compression ratio, giving this engine a power boost of 5 kW (6.7 hp) over previous  six cylinder power plants

The six cylinder propels the car from a standing start to 100 km/h (62.14 mph) in 5.1 seconds which will put many power option V8 engines to shame as well as a large number of European counterparts in the same class. There are two automatic transmissions options available; a five speed and a six speed ZF of a similar type to some models of Jaguar and BMW. The only standard transmission available is a duel clutch six speed which would be left in the dust of the snappy shifting and the better geared automatic.

The Ford Company says the SR6 will average  11.7 L /100 km/h (20.1 mpg) city/highway which could possibly happen but a more realistic figure is 14.9L/100 km (15.7 mpg) under normal driving conditions.

The Falcon has an Australian designed Bishop Y-shaped steering rack using the “virtual pivot system” that is highly responsive with 2.6 turns from lock-to-lock.  The 19 inch alloy rims hold Dunlop low profile tires that hang on to the pavement in fast turns and the slightly soft ride make it ideal for most paved surfaces. The suspension is not stiff enough to make rough road travel comfortable so the SR in any version may not be  an ideal choice for many customers in outlying regions where pavement is often a rarity.

The interior has modest luxury appointments offering very comfortable leather bound buckets seats, electric seat adjustment, two zone climate control, and an  8 speaker stereo system complete with voice control plus blue tooth as well. The 8 inch touch screen able to receive  satellite navigation, has parking sensors, and is complete with a reversing rear view camera. The rear seat passengers have not been forgotten and they are given ample leg room. The trunk will hold many sets of golf clubs and the rear seat back folds down to offer a larger storage area if required.
