Ford Gran Torino Elite 1974 images

The EPA mandate has reduced emissions greatly by 1974, but these have also resulted in a reduction of power available for the Torino. The compression in almost all V8 engines has been dropped considerably, allowing them to run on low lead regular gasoline, which is needed for the catalytic converter. The car is now larger and, including the impact absorbing bumpers it weights in at up to 4,250 lbs. (1.928 kg)-a full 750 lbs (340kg) heavier than in 1968.  The Elite could be equipped with three V8 engines, a 351 cu in  (5.8 L), a 400 cu in (6.6 L) and the ultimate power is a 460 cu in (7.5 L). All of these V8 engines would be bolted to a three speed automatic transmission.
