This vintage road test puts Ford’s flagship 1968 Shelby GT500KR — the “King of the Road” — through its paces, complete with a narrator whose catchphrases are still being quoted in the comments decades later. Viewers reacted to a 6.2-second acceleration figure with genuine disbelief, while others noted the era’s characteristic brake fade after repeated hard stops. One commenter even claims The Doors’ Jim Morrison owned one. Watch to hear “happy time” for yourself.

Ford’s paperwork said the 1969 Mustang Mach 1’s 428 Cobra Jet made 335 horsepower — a number almost nobody who drove one actually believed. When Cobra Jet-powered cars started running 13.8-second quarter miles, NHRA officials moved them into a tougher competition class within months. This particular Mach 1, finished in Ram Air trim and pulled from the Brothers Collection, is a reminder of how aggressively Ford sandbagged its muscle car numbers. Watch to see why this body style still turns heads from every angle.

Ford built this Boss 302 Mustang to satisfy SCCA Trans-Am homologation rules, which required at least 6,500 production copies before the race car could compete. Ford ended up building 7,014 for 1970, exceeding the quota by 514 cars, each carrying a fortified 302-cubic-inch V8 making 290 horsepower and a suspension tuned for road-course duty. Period road tests clocked the quarter mile in 14.9 seconds at 93.4 mph. Ford dropped the model after just two years on the market.
