AMC Matador could have been equipped with the 401 ci in. (6.6 L) V8 in 1974, but this is the last year this engine would be available to the general public. After ’74 the 401Â was available with catalytic converter added, but for fleet orders only. If you purchased a coupe with bucket seats then the floor shifter with a console could also be an option. The power pack in ’74 was the 360 cu in (5.8 L) V8 mounted with a 4-barrel carburetor and dual exhaust pipes.
