Welcome to Muscle Car Fan. Maybe you love someone who loves Mustangs, or you want to finally understand why they talk about them so much. Here is the whole story in four cars, four different eras, and one thing to say about each. You do not need to know a single spec to follow along. Let us start at the beginning.

#4: 1965 Ford Mustang

The first Mustang arrived in April 1964, and America lost its mind. Ford built it for young buyers who wanted something stylish, sporty, and affordable. Underneath it was a simple Falcon, but the long hood and short deck made it look like a sports car.

#3: 1967 Shelby GT500

Next is the 1967 Shelby GT500, the Mustang that went to Hollywood. Carroll Shelby took the Mustang and made it wilder, with a big 428 cubic inch engine and bold stripes. In the 2000 movie Gone in 60 Seconds, a modified Shelby style Mustang named Eleanor became the star, and a new generation of fans fell in love with it.

#2: 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1

The 1969 Mustang Mach 1 is the one you see at almost every car show. It came with a sporty look, a shaker hood on some models, and a wide range of engines, from a modest V8 to the big 428 Cobra Jet. Mach 1 was the name of the high end sporty model, and it was built to look as fast as it was.

#1: 1987 Ford Mustang GT 5.0

The last stop is the 1987 Mustang GT, the Fox body. This one is for the person who grew up in the eighties and nineties. It used the 5.0 liter V8 rated at 225 horsepower, in a light car that was quick, cheap, and easy to modify.

That is the Mustang story in four cars. If you know someone who loves them, now you have four conversations to start and four ideas for a gift. A model car, a book, or a ticket to a car show all work great. Tell me in the comments which Mustang is yours, and follow Muscle Car Fan for more.
