upyersbuddy titled this one bluntly: ‘Vette fans probably oughta skip this video. A Shelby Cobra replica — light, crude, and stripped of nearly everything but a big V8 — lines up against a C6 Corvette Z06 built around a factory-tuned 505-horsepower LS7. Only one walks away happy, and the title already gives away who. Watch to see exactly how a cruder, lighter car pulls it off.
The title alone is a dare: “‘Vette Fans Probably Oughta Skip This Video.” upyersbuddy doesn’t say much else about the matchup up front, just two cars, a straight stretch of road, and a result the title has already spoiled for anyone paying attention. On one side sits a Shelby Cobra replica, light, brutal, and largely uninterested in refinement. On the other is a C6 Corvette Z06, GM’s genuine supercar-killer built around a 7.0-liter LS7 and a dry-sump oiling system borrowed straight from racing. Only one of them was walking away happy.
A Title That Already Gives Away the Ending
upyersbuddy doesn’t hide behind a neutral, both-sides title here — “‘Vette fans probably oughta skip this video” is a spoiler dressed up as a warning, and it sets expectations before a single frame of the actual race plays out. That kind of unpolished honesty is common among owner-run channels built around real cars and real bragging rights rather than sponsor-friendly diplomacy, and it’s part of why the matchup has quietly picked up over 1.3 million views despite almost no channel promotion behind it at all.

What a Cobra Gives Up for Weight
Cobra replicas, whether built on original Shelby specs or one of the many kit-car interpretations that followed decades later, trade almost everything for a power-to-weight ratio few production cars can match on paper. There’s no real weather sealing, minimal creature comforts, and often barely enough bodywork to qualify as a car in the traditional sense — all of it stripped away specifically so a big-inch V8 has as little mass to move as possible off the line. On a short, straight run, that ruthlessness is exactly what makes a well-built Cobra dangerous to anything with doors that actually latch shut.
The C6 Z06’s Case as a Budget Supercar
The C6 Z06 counters with an approach GM spent real engineering money to perfect: a 7.0-liter LS7 producing 505 horsepower, a dry-sump oiling system to prevent oil starvation under hard cornering, and a chassis tuned by the same team responsible for the Corvette Racing program’s endurance cars. It was, at its debut, one of the most track-capable cars sold anywhere near its price point, which is exactly why its owners tend to walk into matchups like this one expecting to win comfortably against nearly anything else on the road.
Why Losing to a Cobra Stings More Than Losing to an Exotic
That expectation is precisely what makes losing to something as crude as a stripped-down Cobra sting more than losing to another exotic would. The Z06 represents a six-figure factory engineering effort aimed squarely at outrunning cars like this one; a kit-built Cobra represents little more than a strong V8 and the stubborn refusal to add weight for comfort. When the lighter, cruder car wins anyway, it says less about the Z06’s shortcomings than about just how far raw power-to-weight can carry a car with almost nothing else going for it.
Why Owner-Filmed Matchups Still Beat Produced Content
None of this comes from a produced television segment or a magazine comparison test — it’s two owners, a stretch of road, and a channel name that suggests upyersbuddy isn’t in the business of softening results for anyone’s ego. That format, unpolished and a little combative, is exactly what keeps channels like this relevant against slicker competitors: real cars, real stakes, and titles that tell you the ending before you’ve even clicked play.
What the Race Actually Proves
Matchups like this rarely settle any real argument about which car is objectively better — a Z06 built for daily comfort and track days isn’t really competing in the same category as a Cobra with no roof, no radio, and barely a windshield. What the video does settle is narrower and more interesting: on this one stretch of road, on this one day, weight beat engineering, and upyersbuddy was there with a camera to prove it.

Yeah but that Cobra is anything but stock . Let Lingenfelter tweak that Vette and see what can happen .
I’m sure the Vette felt fine.
Guy in the Vette doesn’t know how to drive
You nailed it John. Vetted driver had NO skills.
Awesome
Vette driver was late. Cobra was NOT stock. The “winning car” is almost 500-600 lbs lighter. The camera guy is useless!
But you people don’t complain when the corvettes are 500 pounds lighter, or supercharged.
Who’s complaining? Watch the video. The Vette was so late off the line that the race was over by the 60 foot mark. The Vette would weigh between 3500-3600 lbs unless the guy threw the seats away, while the “Cobra” is a little over 3000 lbs, The Cobra is not stock because it isn’t a real Cobra. People who own “real” Cobras don’t race them against late model Corvettes on a bridge, they probably don’t even take them out their sealed, temperature and humidity controlled storage areas ( a real Cobra is worth over 1 million dollars). Either the Cobra was already slowing down just a second before the camera man started shaking like a leaf or the Vette appears to have been slowly reeling it in ( can’t tell for sure because the camera guy is useless). Oh and who is “you people”? Besides “you people” thinks this “Cobra” has something other than an original 283 or 427 side oiler in it! My “guess” would be a Coyote with a Procharger or maybe even a LS .
vette had a ls, ford had 302,,, thats why vette lost..
Its a smaller faster car. No need to make excuses for the vette.
Need better Corvette driver
Always loved the Cobra. Another reason why.
Excuses, excuses, excuses
Nice run …Ford………..Team Mustang
Mustangs are no comparison to an AC Cobra with a 427!
Ed Boland I know that……What do u drive…Big fuckin mouth
Why the pic of the 15 second Mustang ? Nice condition tho .
the cobra was built to race nothing else Carol Shelby knew what he was doing put the Italians in their place at La Mans ! not one year but 3 years ! Zo6 great car for rich bored people !
I have driven 2 different z-06 and a cobra the ride in the vets was better and more toys but when it came just driving pleasure the cobra all the way ! a little foot note I worked for a little while building vettes and enjoyed it then trans am !
they never complain when a vett out race a mustang,, vette lot lighter than mustang,, but they complain a cobra is lot lighter,,, lol
Exactly
Yep.👍👍👍
See it all the time…. the vette driver musta been texting
Wasn’t even close
Cobra kit ? Hate kit cars, except for the old VW kits
And what do you drive sport!
Sometimes it’s the driver not the car
Hey little Cobra, you shut him down?!!
That Vette’s take off looked like Grandma going to the store in a Prius
driver error
I didn’t see the vette win. I saw the cameraman have an epileptic fit at the end.
How does anyone know the Cobra was not stock. Was it a 427 Authentic Cobra or some kit car? I doubt it was authentic, those are worth millions.
Cobra’s are bad ass
I’m saying the Cobra was a kit car, with a Chevy engine and a driver that has raced before.
